Every one of us generates an average of four or five pounds of waste each day so it is essential that we all do our part to limit what ends up in the landfill. Last year, alone, Franklin County generated 2.1 million tons of waste, enough to fill Ohio Stadium FOUR times!
Upper Arlingotn has always been a leader in recycling, but as the market has changed, what we can recycle has likewise evolved. And if we don’t follow the guidelines, we can actually be adding to the problem, with more items ending up at the landfill.
There are only five types of items accepted at the Rumpke Recycling Facility: paper and broken-down cardboard, plastic bottles and jugs, glass bottles and jars, metal cans, and cartons (milk, juice, etc.). Keep everything loose, not bagged, in the recycling bin. The rest of your waste should either be reused, donated, composted or disposed of safely.
Items like yogurt cups, plastic and foam food containers, plastic bags and wire hangers are not accepted at the recycling facility and should not be placed in recycling bins.
